Australian Director gets Film Funding

ist2_3525226-australian-notes.jpgAccomplished theatre director Gale Edwards, winner of an International Emmy for her filmed version of the Broadway revival – Jesus Christ Superstar, is to direct her first feature film, ‘A Heartbeat Away’.

‘A Heartbeat Away’, was one of four films financed by Screen Australia. The others are: ‘Being Dead’, by Lantana director Ray Lawrence; the “poetic thriller” ‘Luv Sux’; ‘Lou’, by Production company Big and Little Films and ‘I Love You Too’, starring comedian Peter Helliar and directed by Daina Reid who was nominated in this month’s Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards for best direction in television. Romantic comedies are not often attempted by Australian filmmakers so receiving funding for such a genre is an achievement in itself.
