The 2008 Inside Film (IF) Awards were celebrated last night on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

Best Actress nominee, Gemma Ward missed out for her portrayal of ‘Jackie Masters’ in ‘The Black Balloon’.

The IF award went to Monic Hendrickx for the role of ‘Tahmeena’, an Afghani woman in ‘Unfinished Sky’.

…Ward’s Australian agency, Shanahan Management, reported that Ward didn’t make an appearance on the night, as she is currently studying acting in New York.

Despite the fact ‘The Black Balloon’ was nominated for 10 IF Awards, it only took home one – Box Office Achievement, for earning a reported
A$2.2 million.

Though all is not lost… ‘The Black Balloon’ has 11 prospective nominations for the AFI (Australian Film Institute) Awards, being held in Melbourne at the Princess Theatre on December 6, though Ward was not acknowledged in the Best Lead Actress or Best Supporting Actress categories.

In 2008 Ward also starred in the horror/thriller flick ‘The Strangers’ alongside ‘Scott Speedman’ and ‘Liv Tyler’. With Gemma Ward’s character being appropriately named ‘Dollface’.
