The Australian hometown of the late actor Heath Ledger named a theater in his honor Tuesday for his commitment to acting.
The $87 million, 575-seat Heath Ledger Theater in Perth is a fitting tribute because Ledger was always supportive of other young actors, Western Australia state Premier Alan Carpenter said at a naming ceremony. The 575-seat theatre is still under construction.
Western Australia Premier Alan Carpenter said the 91 million Australian dollar (£44 million), 575-seat theatre in the capital, Perth, was a fitting tribute to Ledger because he was always supportive of other young actors.
Ledger died at 28 in New York in January of an accidental prescription drug overdose.
The Perth-born actor rose to international stardom after his critically-acclaimed performance in 2005′s Brokeback Mountain. He received a best-actor Academy Award nomination for his role in 2005′s film.
