
The Sydney Film Festival concluded on the 22nd of June.
At the State Theatre, the audience pick was “Fugitive Pieces“, a Canadian-Greek drama about a boy who witnesses his family’s massacre in Nazi-occupied Poland.
“Fugitive Pieces” was produced by Robert Lantos and directed by Jeremy Podeswa (The Five Senses), is based on the international bestselling novel by Anne Michaels. It is a powerful, poetic, and emotionally-charged drama about love, loss and redemption, with a superb cast that includes Stephen Dillane, Rade Sherbedgia, Rosamund Pike, Ayelet Zurer, Robbie Kay, Ed Stoppard, Rachelle Lefevre, and Nina Dobrev.
Casting Directors include Makis Gazis and Nina Gold. Casting Associate was Jason Knight.
At the satellite venues, the winner was Red Like The Sky, an Italian drama about a blind boy who discovers a talent for sound engineering.

The film is inspired by the true story of Mirco Mencacci, one of the most gifted Italian sound editors working today, who happens to be blind. A small village in Tuscany, 1971. Mirco is a bright, lively 10-year-old, crazy about the movies – especially Westerns and adventure films.
The audiences favourite documentary at the State Theatre was Young@Heart, about a senior citizens’ choir preparing for a concert of songs including from the Clash, Sonic Youth and David Bowie. It is due for a cinema release in October.
